Meaning of ECONOMIC DETERMINISM:
‘Causation’ might be a better word than ‘determinism’; economic determinism is the idea that social structure and social change are primarily to be explained in terms of economic factors. Determinism is an approach to human behaviour which supposes that it is not a matter of free choice but is completely, mostly or somewhat a consequence of forces other than choice. Marxism is the primary example of an approach to social action and social evolution that supposes people are mostly shaped by their place in the economy.
