Also known as radical criminology; this 1970s development from the sociology of deviance argued that much crime was a reasonable reaction of exploited and dispossessed people to the inequities of capitalist society. In the US Richard Quinney was a leading exponent of this view, in the UK, lan Taylor, Paul Walton and Jock Young’s (1975) The New Criminology was a pioneering text.
