Meaning of BIRTH RATE (ALSO CRUDE BIRTH RATE)

Meaning of BIRTH RATE (ALSO CRUDE BIRTH RATE):

Crude birth rate is the number of live births per thousand persons of all ages in a given year. As this does not focus on the age-wise birth rate, its utility is limited. For instance, if a population has a large number of women in the child bearing age, its crude birth rate will be high irrespective of the actual number of children each woman bears. A more useful measure is the General Fertility Rate which is the number of live births in a year per thousand women in the age group of 15 to 44 years. There are three other type of birth rates that are used by demographers to predict the population trends.
