Meaning of AUTOMATION:

It refers to the technical advancement in modern industries where production is primarily performed by machines while human beings are involved in supervisory and regulatory functions. “Closed-loop” systems that require no human involvement at any stage of production are examples of fully automated systems. Computerised controls have made automation possible. Automation has generated considerable debate among sociologists regarding its positive and negative fall outs. Based on his study of the extent of alienation in different type of industries, Robert Blaunner concluded that automation leads to a decline in alienation as it allows space for human prudence at work. There are others who talk about increasing unemployment due to automation though it means expanded economies. These are debatable issues that remain inconclusive.
